A few homemade Christmas decoration ideas that are easy, fun and will end up saving you money, you know, the trifecta of Christmas
Confetti, messy? Yes, but if you convince yourself that they are more of a decoration rather than garbage, can you really say in confidence that they are not fun? And besides Christmas comes around only once a year and you can take care of the cleaning and fixing up after you’ve had your fun and joy. With decorations and the sort, it is almost impossible to get away clean, so the best way is at the end of the day to probably not even try.
Paper, alongside cardboard is probably the cheapest and easiest to come by material out there, and this is great news since it is also easy to manipulate and work with as well. One idea are paper snowflakes which with a little dedication and patience can turn anything Christmassy, you want a garage Christmas? Stick some paper flakes to the walls, and boom, it’s done, yes it’s that easy. And that is not even all, you can make paper stars and even string paper cutouts along too.
There is not really any way to get a cheap decent Christmas tree, but the fake ones have gone a long way in recent years and not only can they disassemble and shed notably less bristles than real trees, but they can be stored and reused for years to come, which is kind of a way to save some cash. And there is also the fact that people don’t put gifts under trees anymore, mostly owing to them buying smaller and flatter presents like iPads and the sort, but in their stead you can put fancy-wrapped empty boxes!
Pinecones and bottle caps can be great tree decorations if you put a little thought and effort to them, since if you just put a string and stick them on as they are, they will look lazily done and, well, stupid. Getting some paper, glue and nail polish and making them into small little figurines or something is always a fun thing to do, and if you are any good with a crochet needle and yarn, then your options only got wider!
Then, there are things like gingerbread man which can be hung as decorations or even fruit slices, which have been rising in popularity, but you have to keep in mind that they are perishables and will start to rot pretty quickly, unless of course your Christmas tree is outside in the cold winter weather! On the other hand, if you are confident in your baking skills and don’t mind throwing or eating your decorations after a few days, or even a week, then this just might be the idea for you.
